Visit Wilmslow’s First Outdoor Theatre Production featuring Shakespeare’s Playful Comedy

Wilmslow’s first open-air Shakespeare style theatre opens this summer in The Carrs Park, in what is intended to be Wilmslow’s first-ever open-air theatre season.

The event is being produced by the award-winning Cheshire theatre company Time & Again, whose shows explore things historical in contexts that are fresh and relevant today. With the support of Wilmslow Town Council, Time and Again theatre company will stage A Midsummer Night’s Dream in The Carrs park this August, bringing theatre back into style after an eighteen-month absence during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the theatre industry among the hardest, it seems imperative that the arts be promoted again as fervently as possible as the world returns to normal. It will be the first time the outdoor theatre has been staged at The Carrs, thanks to the generous support of Wilmslow Town Council.

“We were one date into a UK wide tour when the first lockdown began,” said Tim Cooper, a member of Time & Again, and a Wilmslow resident for over thirty years. “It’s been really hard to see so many shows cancelled and theatres closed during the past year. But we’re really looking forward to performing again and doing such a fun play outdoors in our local town seems like the best way to restart.

The acting group has toured extensively, performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Greater Manchester, Cambridge, Shropshire, and Kent, and collaborating with museums and historical places including RAF Museum Cosford, the Severn Valley Railway, and Yorkshire Air Museum.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream will run from 20th – 22nd August at The Carrs (the show will be performed in the space usually occupied by the outdoor cinema in previous years).

Friday 20th at 7 pm, Saturday 21st at 2 pm, and Sunday 22nd at 2 pm. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for children under 12. The show is suitable for all ages and has a running time of 2 hours + a 20-minute interval.

Bring a picnic and a chair, and prepare to meet runaway lovers, feuding fairies, magic, mayhem, and a misunderstood identity in Shakespeare’s joyful comedy. You will be transported back to the 1980s with this Dream – think striking miners, new romantics, neon lights, and a royal wedding.

It is encouraged that audience members bring a blanket or chair in case of rain. Please bring an umbrella and a waterproof jacket as the show will still go on regardless of summer showers!
