After reports of a fire-breathing dragon approaching Chester on Sunday 23 April, Chester is once again on the lookout. In an action-packed St George’s Day celebration, Chester will welcome the return of St George to slay the dragon and save the princess.

Through a roaming street performance, Russell Kirk tells the legend of St George with street tournaments starting at 11 am in Town Hall Square. This ‘nearly true’ story will make you rethink your understanding of the St George legend.

Russell’s tale will welcome the Chester audience:

‘All you good folk of Chester TownCome close and listen wellI have a tale of blood and goreAnd bravery to tell’

‘Of shiny knights with pointy swordsOf damsels fair and sweetOf kings of old, with lots of goldAnd very smelly feet’

Whether you think of St George as the country’s patron saint or as a heroic knight slaying a fire-breathing dragon, the story of St George has become as iconic as his white and red flag.

A colorful and musical pageant of minstrels, knights, and jesters in a pageant of colors and sounds will feature children from local primary schools Dee Point Primary, Mill View Primary, St Clare’s RC Primary, and Tarvin Primary. During this fast-paced performance, the knights’ fast-paced skills will be tested in Eastgate Street for sword skills and Bridge Street for archery skills at 11 a.m.
